He has received prestigious awards such as the Michigan Humanities Humanitarian of the Year and has been honored locally as a 40 Under 40 recipient and the former Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Notably, Marcel was named the 2023 Newsmaker of the Year by the Grand Rapids Business Journal, underscoring his significant impact on the community and beyond.

Throughout his journey, Marcel has faced personal challenges, including the loss of his wife, yet he has persevered as an Executive Director, guiding his nonprofit organization from its inception to raising over 6 million dollars for a multicultural arts center in an underinvested area of Grand Rapids.
